Last year, Malaysian tourists made up the largest number of foreign travellers to Thailand with a whopping 4,626,422 visitors, as per the statistics shared by

Thailland’s Tourism and Sports Ministry. That’s a staggering 16% of the total 28.09 million foreign visitors who visited the Land of Smiles last year.

Well, it looks like the influx of Malaysian tourists ain’t stopping anytime soon as the latest statistics by Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Ministry revealed that 1.39 million Malaysians visited the Kingdom in 2024 so far as of 16 April, the 2nd highest nationality. Furthermore, Thailand welcomed 10,723,953 foreign tourists so far this year. This has led to the country generating over THB500 billion or approximately RM67.41 billion in revenue from ALL of the international visitors.

Of the over 10 million foreign tourists, visitors from China led the pack with over 2 million visitors followed by Malaysia with 1.39 million. Making up the top 5 are Russia , South Korea and India .Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol asserted that she anticipates a continued rise in foreign visitors to the country.

This is due to several factors such as the end of Ramadan, which is expected to trigger a surge in tourists from Malaysia, as well as free-visa agreements with several nations.Overall, her Ministry is setting an ambitious target of 40 million foreign tourist arrivals this year, over 12 million more than the total arrivals last year.
