Image: Mark Stedman/Photocall Ireland Image: Mark Stedman/Photocall Ireland YESTERDAY, THE GOVERNMENT announced that schools would close until at least the end of January, as part of measures to limit the spread of Covid-19 in this latest surge.
There are two exceptions to this closure: one is to allow Leaving Cert students to attend the school building three days a week, and the other is that special education should remain open. The Government has argued that schools are safe, and that 75% of schools have not needed to be referred to public health teams. Education Minister Norma Foley said that closing the schools was “a gesture” to help limit the spread of Covid-19 in other settings.
So we’re asking: do you agree with having Leaving Cert students back in school three days a week during Level 5 restrictions? No - no students or teachers should go back Yes, their studies should be prioritised Yes, but all students should go back.

No and I will not be risking my daughters health so NormaFoleyTD1 can save face for not arranging a plan B
Just change to a system that judges all of their years, permanently. IRS a ridiculous exam any...takes their teenage years away from them with stress and worry..it’s a memory game..
No.
NO they are the most capable of learning online. Those 2 weeks can easily be made up later this will prolong the recovery 61,000 families and how many teachers also with families?
Absolutely crazy carry on. Keep them all off. Also use the time to reform the LC. Assignments and smaller exams just like college. I know I'd have done better that way. My exam results weren't great but at school I did well. Class 96. Back in college now
If creche workers can work 5 days why can students go to school 3 days. Primary schools should be opened
Yes. It’ll get them out of the bloody house!
No, the anxiety this is causing my daughter will nullify any positive of being back in a school environment
I'm not happy about my LC kid/adult going back at all, i read a good comparison someone had on here yday. If 25 adults wanted to book a room in a hotel for a meeting it wouldn't be allowed keepthemhome onlinelearning
You can’t win either way!!
A stupid unscientific poll to whip up some type of frenzy
No
Damned if you do...

Poll: Should Leaving Cert students be given the option of sitting the exams or taking calculated grades?Among the options for the Leaving Cert include holding the exams in the traditional manner or repeating last year’s calculated grades system. A hybrid model of the two has also been suggested. Is there not enough confusion, given the pressure and stresses young students are in already? Don't repeat last years calculated grades system unless someone has bothered to test the bloody software properly by now. Pathetic Dept of Ed. And they decide the Comp Sci curriculum.
