Mourners at the funeral of beloved GAA coach Niall McEneaney were told that he was “everybody’s favourite” who had “friends in every county in Ireland”.

This comes as The Garda Ombudsman Commission, which has also opened up an investigation due to the alleged involvement of an off-duty garda in the incident, continues to interview a number of gardaí as witnesses. CCTV is currently being examined by investigators as part of the probe into the horror incident. A ‘vehicle of interest’ was later recovered and investigators are working to determine if the garda, who is based in the northwest region, was driving the car at the time of the collision.
The Garda Ombudsman Commission opened up an investigation due to the involvement of a garda in the incident and continues to appeal for witnesses.
