Enterprise Minister Simon Coveney will aim to “raise the profile of Ireland as a key source of innovation for Korean business” as part of the Government’s trade mission to Seoul.
In recent years, it has become known for its prominence as a global trendsetter in high-tech and culture such as K-pop and K-drama. Minister Coveney’s objectives for the trip include raising the profile of Ireland as a key source of innovation for Korean business, particularly among target Korean technology companies.
Key successes for Irish business in South Korea include Transfermate, McHale and Tanco and clinical research organisation ICON, which employs over 750 people in the Korean market. Irish agri-food exports to South Korea in 2022 were worth €75 million or 21,000btonnes in volume terms. This represents a 58% increase in value on 2021 figures, while volume increased by 23%.
