The hum of the sewing machine the only sound in the garden where the two work.
Supported by the Cork Migrant Centre and the charity Better Together, the initiative is a response to demands for masks from those living in direct provision where social distancing is challenging. The hum of a sewing machine as Olga Voytenko & her daughter Sophie make hygiene face masks - they are among 15 women in 6 direct provision centre in #Cork making masks for residents as an urgent response to #COVIDー19 pandemic. pic.twitter.com/3OALdR4S1T

Well done ladies
they are in a dp center indoors etc, now where is ur concern for the homeless irish on the streets, its clear by irish media they dont exist during this virus, disgraceful
Those masks ain't worth the time making as they are not medical spec. So a moot report at best.
In Cuba they make masks out of old/new bras, imagine that
Fantastic initiative . Very well done.
Great effort fair play!
Wait... Russians in directprovision? What war are they fleeing from may I ask?
Must have missed that Russian war with all this Covid-19 stuff 🙄
Russians in directprovision? Wasn't it supposed to be for Syrian refugees and victims of wars around the world?
We must EndDirectProvision!
Sanctuary Masks Initiative .. oh seriously. were being played for fools
Ahh here are we gone that bad or cynical these women where trying to help nothing more nothing less the story it's self was reported as a positive one wise up stop bring bitter you never know you might even get better at being human that is
RTE is fake news.
What war did they flee from?
Cloth masks are about as useful for filtering viruses as a choclate tea cup.
Thank you 👏🥰
paddyoverall This is so lovely
3 masks each won't last long, but congratulate the effort🙏
The cost of maintaining these women now & in the future will be huge. They are making masks for people living in DP, many of whom are repeat appeal failed asylum seekers who shouldn't even be in Ireland. Irish people are homeless. There is a housing crisis these people add to.
Masks when worn by general public may in fact increase infection through increased touching of face to fix mask. People need to stay at home, shop only for essentials infrequently and stay 2m apart. Masks may give false sense of security. Follow the HSE and Dr Holahans advice
Brilliant ! Great spirit.
You should probably tell them what you've been telling the rest of us. Unless you've been lying to us and masks actually do work.
Just brilliant
Why are Russians seeking asylum here? What scam is this ?
Good girls 👍👍
Pesky immigrants 😉 👏
Well done. Good woman
Fantastic woman
