There must be long-term studies on the negative masking impacts on students. As we enter the pandemic’s third year, studies are required to determine if masking at school does have developmental and mental health impacts. Opinion

With only 16 per cent of Canadian children double vaccinated against COVID-19, masking remains an important strategy for controlling transmission in schools, and keeping them open for in-person learning. However, there are questions around the potential impacts masking may have on the developmental and mental health of school-aged children.

While we have guided families during the pandemic to leverage developmental opportunities during mask-free times at home, mealtimes or during outdoor play, we must acknowledge that a large proportion of vital skill building time is spent masked in the classroom. While there is no evidence that masking increases mental health symptoms, some experts and parents alike have voiced concerns that masking may increase stress and behaviour problems in children with pre-existing mental health issues. Some fear that those with sensory processing difficulties, impulsivity, distractibility, or anxiety may experience worsening symptoms by masking for long periods of time at school.

Many countries in Asia have used masks long prior to the Pandemic.... How are their students compared to students here?

Hey is anyone studying whether forcing kids into closed quarters in the middle of a pandemic that could permanently disable them and stripping away their protections has any long term mental health impacts, or is everyone utter ghouls

There’s proof… look at the drivel that’s come from the Toronto star throughout the pandemic. Definitely major brain damage there

Not on the dead ones

Just talk to a kid and you’ll get your answer. Many are pretty messed up. Say no to mask mandates, they do little to nothing at this stage of the game.

Masking of our children, the lowest risk age group for Covid is a national disgrace. It has created far more problems than it has solved. Full stop. It needs to stop now.

News flash 2: Teachers see huge developmental delays in young kids because of masking. Kids can't properly hear their teachers and cannot lip read so their language skills have suffered immensely.

I have many teacher friends who say masking has had dramatic developmental impacts. E.g. JKs and SKs whose speech and language skills are significantly delayed. Kids who are terrified of ever taking off their masks. Masks that are germ incubators themselves.

This is unserious contrarian BS News flash: kids have been through plenty the last two years and masks barely make the list.

Depending on the age of the child, I'm willing to bet most young students support mandatory masking and vaccination roll-outs. Kids are doing all right. Better than the adults.

Ridiculous.

How about the counterfactual where a parent or caregiver dies from lack of masking? Where is the long-term study on repeated long COVID from catching COVID more than once in successive waves? Opinion

Right from the beginning, Dr Fraudci said that masks did not work and caused a false sense of security. If after 3 years you need to do a study, I don't think you deserve to even be allowed free speech.

Opinion | Time to address staff burnout in long-term careTime to address staff burnout in long-term care. Research that shows that even before COVID-19, managers of long-term care homes in Canada were at a high risk for burnout. Opinion Always about the staff. Nobody talks about removing seniors from institutions into smaller homelike settings, the way we did for the disabled. No, it is about pay for workers, benefits for workers, hire more workers. Seniors are widgets, job creators.

Alberta students walk out to protest decision to lift mask mandate in schoolsDozens of students walk out to protest the Alberta government’s decision to lift a mask mandate in schools Good grief! People protesting for having to wear masks in school others for not having to wear masks! Let the schools decide. Masks and vaccines don't keep you safe! “Roses are red. Violets are blue. Masks keep US safe. It’s NOT about YOU!” This isn’t just about what you want either. Please continue to mask up and distance yourselves from those who are not masked if you feel unsafe. We aren’t imposing our choice on you as you would do to us.
