Opinion: Blanket visitation bans that enabled prolonged separation were among the gravest mistakes made during this pandemic, and must never be repeated.

“Imagine being locked away from your husband. Never to see them. This is my other half — this is half of my life, and they’ve stolen it.”

. Indeed, facilitating the unpaid care and support provided by family caregivers is not just the ethically responsible thing to do — it is in the best interests of staff and residents who rely on that support to keep the system afloat. “There was one painful window visit towards the end where my mother was pleading with me to come beside her, to be beside her bed, and to not leave her. She would say to me, ‘you’re the only person I feel safe with’ … It just broke me.”

When this particular recommendation was made, we immediately asked: Well, what about family caregivers of loved ones inside these LTC facilities? Were they not traumatized? Do they not require support? The answer to all is a resounding yes.

Sadly, too many truths are in here. Bless those who made it through, who didn't and those who are recovering better now. 🙌

Hmmm….but first there was this. Remember Oh those conspiracy theories are coming true. Good liberal lap dogs.

Correct. Better late than never to come around.

Your scumbag newspaper is partially responsible. Your entire editorial and journalism staff need to be arrested, imprisoned and your criminal 'newspaper' organization needs to be disbanded permanently. Rot in hell you evil scum!

Fear mongering by media was main reason in my opinion

Absolutely unforgivable. 🤬 Those who are responsible should face prosecution.

Now you call it a mistake, hypocrites!! You pushed and encouraged it covidiot prostlmedia!!

Yet torstar ctv and cbc were pushing for this

This country has the most sadist and sad people I ever met. Happy moving out this shit hole in a month or two.

Oh but I thought no freedoms were lost? What about the people who couldn’t travel between provinces to be with dying relatives or move for a new job.

Opinion: you were cheerleaders for every single action that was taken. Not one decision that was made should ever repeated again; not just this decision.

My uncle lost the ability to walk. He is developmentally delayed and wouldn’t do his physio but likely would have if family had been able to see him during the three month period. Went from a solid member of the community to, as he says, “a blob”. Bedridden and depressed.

YOU SAID IT: Feeling so much saferMuch like the budget balancing itself, all those illegal guns will take care of themselves and respect the bans, the writer argues. Not sure Mr. Abbott is familiar with baseball if he thinks batting .900 is a bad thing, but otherwise well said. Indeed, there’s nothing the Trudeau Liberals can’t screw up, and now we get to watch them blame PAL/RPAL holders yet again when his ban does nothing to reduce crime.
