Gary Bettman says puck and player tracking to start in NHL playoffs Globe_Sports

This translation has been automatically generated and has not been verified for accuracy.People watch real-time puck and player tracking technology on display during an NHL hockey game between the Vegas Golden Knights and the San Jose Sharks, in Las Vegas, Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman says the technology will be up and running in all playoff arenas this spring and fully operational leaguewide next season.

“There will be more data than ever before,” Bettman said. “I believe the players will generate something like 200 data points per second and the puck 2,000 data points a second, so in terms of getting inside the game, telling stories, as a fan delving in to get what you’re interested in, you’re going to be able to do more things than ever before and even imaginable.

“Obviously, what we announced at the board meeting, some people have followed up and there have been some things reported to us,” Daly said. Four months since owners and players each decided not to opt out of the CBA that goes until 2022, Bettman said the Players’ Association has taken a “deep breath” on negotiations. He expects CBA talks to resume in earnest soon, despite the lack of an urgent deadline.

Globe_Sports Black puck on white ice. MLB white ball on green grass in brilliant sun or dull grey day. Americans would go ballistic if TV coverage used doodles to locate the ball. If it don't look like a video game you'll lose the Millenial viewers?

Globe_Sports If I see that shit on my tv I’m gonna have to stop watch Nhl hockey 🏒 NHL

Bettman: NHL puck and player tracking to start in playoffs - Sportsnet.ca“I believe the players will generate something like 200 data points per second and the puck 2,000 data points a second.' The new enforcers of the NHL, data points, what a load of crap This is awful. They tested it last night at the all star game and it was headache inducing. What a pain in the ass to watch a game with all the squares of players names bouncing all over the screen. Just makes the game harder to watch. Only Betman would come up with a stupid idea like that.

Bettman: Building a safe work environment is the league's priorityGary Bettman met with the media before Friday's NHL Skills competition, and emphasized the league's agenda to create a safe work environment. Maybe if the league admitted the relationship between concussions and CTE we could actually believe a word of what he says. What a crock. Read 'Game Change' by Ken Dryden, and then look at everything Bettman says. Maybe start small, like enforce proper wearing of visor so it actually protects the eyes....and stop spreading the temple area of helmets so visors are easier to screw on to the helmet...
