First day of Trump's hush money trial adjourns with no jurors selected

The first day of Donald Trump 's historic hush money trial ended Monday after hours of pretrial motions and an initial jury selection process that saw dozens of prospective jurors excused after they said they could not be fair or impartial. Donald Trump 's first criminal trial started in Manhattan Monday morning with the former president repeating his complaints that the hush-money case is nothing but a political attack. Trump says the case is an outrage and persecution.

Jabin Botsford-Pool/Getty ImagesThe Trump campaign furiously denied suggestions that he had fallen asleep during the first day of his historic criminal trial—calling the suggestion “fake news” while claiming falsely that the reporters who noted his sleepy courtroom demeanor weren’t even in the same room when it happened. “This is 100% Fake News coming from ‘journalists’ who weren’t even in the court room,” the Trump campaign said in a statement Monday shortly after proceedings concluded.
