A woman who stabbed her mother to death at her home in Victoria’s northeast was fatally shot by police after refusing to drop her knife. Police were called to a property on Kett St address in Lower Plenty about 6.30pm on Friday night after receiving a call from a member of the public, who initially reported that a daughter was attempting to set her mother on fire.
“They were confronted with a terrible dilemma and they’ve acted absolutely appropriately within their training and within the guidelines and for that they have my fullest support along with the broader organisation,” Colson said. “No member wants to go to work expecting or wanting to draw their firearm. It’s a terrible situation which they dread.” The two officers, who both have experience in the force between four and six years, were not armed with a taser.
