Diane Keaton has lived a seemingly enviable existence. The Oscar-winning actor has starred in more than 50 films, published books and raised two children – plus enjoyed several high-profile relationships. At 73, she’s still making movies and, thanks to her, she remains a genuine fashion influencer. But Diane’s charmed life has come at some cost. Here, she opens up about work, love and regrets.
about death. It’s really like approaching it, and how do you approach that part of your life? Nobody wants that. It’s like, you always want to be cute, you want to be attractive, you want to be adored. I’m an actress. I went into this for that. More than being an actress, I wanted people to watch me. I wanted to be in front of people. [I’ve never felt beautiful. I’ve felt beautiful inside but not pertaining to my appearance. No, I mean actually feel beautiful.
I’m just going to wear what I want to wear. I’m not going to be changing my point of view about clothing and the right dress or the wrong dress. I always got a lot of bad reviews on what I wore, so what’s the difference? If you like what you like, you might as well wear what you like. I like to choose for myself. I don’t want someone choosing for me. And also, I’ve thought a lot about my body. Some of those bodies in Hollywood are kind of, “Wow!” I never had that kind of a body.
I really don’t know, but what makes a person last long? I mean, I’ve had lucky breaks... I think it’s good fortune, and having inspired some people who wanted to work with me.Do you have any regrets that particularly stick out?
She seems obsessed with her lost youthful looks, fashion and the lack of celebrity culture when she was at her peak. A bit sad really.
'You can’t have everything. There’s no way you’re going to have everything' Wow, so deep. Journalism at its best
I wouldn’t call it enviable. Just look at the unfortunate woman.
