Meet the determined young women who are working to break down barriers in the community and workforce, refusing to be defined by a stereotype.

"When you're born in a refugee camp and your mum says you're a refugee, you don't really know what that means," she said."But you are in another country so you're faced with their culture as well — you have to practice both to fit in.""People didn't understand my colour. Ballarat, at the time, was a regional area with a very Anglo-Saxon community," she said.

But Ms Folly said it was not just members of her own culture that she looked for — there was a lack of women of colour being represented working in the community. The LYLO program aimed to change how young women are treated and Ms Folly said the program should be mandatory in other regional areas.

colour has nothing to do with it

But you can become a professional victim.

Or... she could watch the brilliant JeromeEHudson on the lies of 'race hustlers and victim hood vendors' like the ABC who dominate left wing politics. Inspiring speech at TPUSA's BlackLeadershipSummit. auspol pmlive outsiders

Misleading headline. Typical ABC race-baiting.

The banal statement “As a woman of colour” always a precursor to the usual anti-Western bilge Describes her experience of our nation as if it were populated by the KKK Another useful “victim” for ABC to grind out its core narrative: White Australia is Racist auspol THEIRABC

New arrivals experience significant English language barriers and ridiculous testing by the education sector when trying to access further education. There must be a better way so all people can improve their lives through learning.

It is not realistic to expect an easy jump to the same level as locals in a single generation when the locals have built up the position they have over multiple generations. Other ethnic groups understood this & the parents sacrificed everything so that their kids could succeed.

Misleading headline. But statistically black women would be among the least likely to have an aptitude for the sciences.

Cooking is also a science.

ABCaustralia, you're being deliberately misleading. To all those who read only the headline of a story, any story, please don't get sucked in by crap like this.

Big effort to make Australia sound like Jim Crow era Alabama with this headline

I wouldn't anyways, because i did and there a little to no well paid jobs

Surely as someone interested in science she’s aware white is a colour

Misleading Twitter headline as opposed to article. Article talks about a language barrier and not a ' woman of color' barrier . As a woman with a Physics degree we had women of color in my graduating class.

Is this the same ABC That Ita Buttrose, their BOSS, wants to get rid of White Australians from the Media.. Prime Minister, are you OK with this racial slur .

Seems like they're dealing with it. I love echidnas. More of them, please! They are as Australian as can be. Echidna didn't know that his body temperature was 30°C. Echidna has no sweat glands, so we have no choice but to swim.🤔😶
