The ABC's biggest audience engagement project yet has given the editorial team valuable insights into the burning issues people wanted to know about throughout the pandemic.

Every day, questions were analysed and relayed to our specialist reporters, presenters, producers and editors to help them understand more about what people needed to know,We were unable to respond to each question individually due to the sheer volume of questions flowing in and the challenge of information changing so quickly at times.

"This project helped us identify the key burning questions people wanted answered on the health, economic and social impacts of COVID-19," says Archer. "And we could see how some questions remained on people's minds as broad, ongoing themes, such as 'what are the symptoms of coronavirus?' or 'how do I claim JobKeeper?' or 'when will there be a vaccine?'"

"We've seen in real-time the benefit in answering questions for as long as people are asking them, finding new ways to cover off recurring themes while also listening as new topics emerge or as the focus of the pandemic shifted from one state to another," Archer says.Neryssa Azlan and her colleagues working on the project took great care to protect the privacy of people who submitted questions.
