A terminally ill woman with stage four metastatic breast cancer is pleading with Queensland's health authorities to stop ignoring 'specialists' advice' and allow her to quarantine at home.

An immunocompromised, terminally ill Queensland woman is pleading for the state's health officials to stop ignoring "specialists' advice" and allow her to quarantine at home.Lisa Laird had been receiving medical treatment for stage four breast cancer in Hong KongMs Laird's husband says several exemption requests have been met with a "blank, generic 'no'"

Lisa Laird, 49, who is a metastatic stage four breast cancer patient, returned to Brisbane on Christmas Eve after spending three months in Hong Kong to receive medical treatment. Ms Laird applied for several exemptions to bypass mandatory hotel quarantine on medical grounds, with the support of three specialists who recommended she complete her two weeks of isolation at her home in Mission Beach.

But Ms Laird's applications, including an offer to self-fund aeromedical transfers, were denied, and she was admitted into the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital after falling unwell upon arriving in the state."Would they let this happen to their daughter or loved one in my situation?" she asked of Queensland Health.Watch

I think this story is missing a key aspect - why did she travel overseas for cancer treatment? What was the 'treatment'? Australia has world class cancer care. I feel for her, but I think stories like this drum up mass anger when her travel perhaps wasn't warranted

For her condition it is better that she is in hospital than hotel quarantine. Bring immune compromised myself, if I had to quarantine, I think I’d prefer there than a hotel room

I really don't blame Queensland gov. People can't be trusted in self quarantine that has been proven. If people are willing to leave their state or go overseas for whatever reason they have to accept that they will be quarantined.

This was the theme all throughout the last closed borders, why would it be any different now.... Ok if you're a incoming Celebrities though, especially if you're making movies! 😠

Why was such an ill person in Hong Kong? To ill to be at home?

This is beyond heartless. The Qld government is setting aside all humanity and destroying the rights of suffering humans to protect the rest of society from a virtually non-existent risk. (Oh, but they make exceptions for celebrities). They are monsters.

When someone asks for an exemption who reviews the case? Is it a medical professional or a bureaucrat?

'she was admitted into the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital after falling unwell upon arriving in the state' so she wasn't well-enough to self quarantine anyhow. this is a beat-up scummo story

Real bugga they never informed her of this while she was still OS,, she could have stayed there in quarantine and been with her husband

Put as much shit as you want on Qld Labor because they don’t make the decision it’s the QLD CMO who is not politicaly aligned to any political party unlike other states

BLM! Is this in the Aboriginal community again still facing discrimination on our own Fatherland from the ethnic Western community of Aussies?

I’m sure there are many people who have their own stories but I’m happy to know the QLD CMO who is not political makes these decisions

I thought AnnastaciaMP was being overly strict with borders and exemptions because there was an election coming up, but turns out she's just generally heartless.

What was she doing in Hong Kong with stage 4 cancer throughout a pandemic?

Blood on your hands StevenJMiles

Can’t wait to see all the drips defend this shit. Forcing a cancer patient into hospital quar is really keeping you safe, huh.

More politically motivated BS on behalf of ScoMo by the ABC social hacks.
