Woman who claimed more than $200k Centrelink cash after baby died sentenced

A woman who claimed more than $200,000 in Centrelink parenting payments for almost 15 years after her severely disabled baby died has been sentenced to three years in jail, served by way of an Intensive Corrections Order.The 41-year-old pleaded guilty to three charges of defrauding the Commonwealth and obtaining financial advantage by deception, as well as unrelated robbery and shoplifted charge in July.

He said the her mental condition deteriorated and referred to expert reports stating she showed classic "denial behaviours" including dressing up a doll and pretending it was her daughter. He acknowledged that as well as not reporting her daughter's death to Centrelink, she actively lied, by stating that her daughter was alive, in her care and required support for significant disabilities.

Mr Bernhaut claimed that due to her mental condition, Mains would have been a "clear candidate" for the Disability Support Pension, and if she had received this instead of the fraudulent parenting payment she was claiming, she would in fact have been $2,500 better off.

The government wonders why centerlink recipients rip off centerlink, well when the Government dose not provide Australians with a job who want a job, then how the he'll can we Newstart recipients be expected to survive on Newstart which pays nothing.

Take everything she owns off her , sell it and if there is enough to pay back center link than do so. After that ,lock her up

Garbage like that should be locked up, and the key thrown away.

Centrelink put her through a life of hell because they didn’t pick up on the mental disability then the judge jails her knowing she was worse off financially and burdened with modern day job searching rigours in her illiterate state.

I hope to god they just keep on catching ppl that are stealing from the government this is sicking

Was she also claiming Child support?

No doubt this woman is a horrible human, and should not have received payments. But you’re reinforcing the stereotype that this is “normal” for welfare recipients. It is not normal, and it’s irresponsible reporting. Stop punching down, Australia..
