The woman who was struck by a rollercoaster at the Melbourne Royal Show in a “devastating accident” has been identified as 26-year-old Shylah Rodden.
It’s believed the 26-year-old, who had been working at the show, was lifted into the air on impact and fell 9m to the ground.Rodden’s family told 7NEWS that she has now undergone surgery, but still remains in a critical condition with a brain injury, and broken arms, legs and feet. The Rebel Coaster ride has been shut down as the incident is investigated.
“It is a tragic accident and from our understanding, there was a mobile phone at the base of the Rebel Coaster that she dropped on the ride and she went back to recover the mobile phone,” he said.Police cordoned off the area as paramedics treated her on the scene.“Our thoughts are with the young woman that was involved in this tragic accident and her family and friends. It’s really devastating.”
“This is a tragic accident, not a malfunction of a ride, so I can assure people that the rides are entirely safe.”One witness of the accident told 7NEWS she heard the moment Rodden fell to the ground, describing it as a “big bang”.
A phone isn't that important. Look left look right. better still don't climb things not for climbing.
I find it odd she scaled the high fence ?When all she had to do was tell the ride operator about her ph and to arrange to stop the ride while the ph was retrieved. Also what are the odds of the ph landing on the metal ,see how large the track spaces are ? Something doesn't add up
Was she struck by the ride or did she fall out of it? Seems to be some inconsistency in what happened
