A woman has been arrested and charged with manslaughter over the death of Adelaide disability care recipient Ann Marie Smith, whose death was previously declared a major crime.from severe septic shock, multi-organ failure, severe pressure sores, malnutrition and issues connected with her cerebral palsyThe 54-year-old's death sparked multiple investigations, including by SA Police, and it is believed she may have spent up to a year confined to a cane chair before her death.
SA Police said they arrested a woman at her Hectorville home this morning, and searched her home and another property at Banksia Park."We alleged that the death was the result of serious criminal neglect," Detective Superintendent Des Bray said. "The first phase of the investigation … was focused on the provision of care directly to Annie, and anybody who was involved in that care.
"It's been a comprehensive investigation to date, looking at all aspects of the care provided to her, and we've been able to build a picture of Annie's life since the death of her parents in 2009."They also revealed her car had been used by an unknown person and that
It should be a murder charge in our view
What about the agency that were paid to ensure Ann Marie Smith? Why aren't they named? Do they have any accountability ABC?
Should be murder. She knew she was stealing from a disabled person and deliberately neglected her. The company should also be responsible for not checking
Manslaughter in this context reads more like a slap on the wrist
I hope the company is also charged more than the measely $12500 for not reporting it. Did they ever contact Ms Smith in regards to the quality of care she was receiving? What about NDIS staff? She should have a co-ordinator there too.
Should be murder.
Except that if you have a duty of care it is not manslaughter, it is murder?
Oh God, this story is just so horrible. I can think of few things worse than how this woman was taken advantage of and how she suffered and died.
They need to throw the book at this so called woman, this case is horrific
This is a good step however there is also a whole systematic abuse occurring here. Not just one individual
