Breaking: One woman is in a serious condition and three men are stable after the large gum tree fell on the Hume Highway just after 4pm on Friday

Wind speeds reached 100km/h in Penrith and 96km/h in Badgerys Creek on Friday, causing traffic delays and kicking up dust.

"As well, some Route 904 buses are diverting away from the Hume Highway and are using Orange Grove Road, Cabramatta Road and Copeland Street instead, missing eight stops. Buses in the Liverpool area are delayed up to 40 minutes due to the heavy traffic."Nine NewsAt 6pm, Endeavour Energy said its crews were working to restore power to 40,000 homes and businesses in the Macarthur, North Western Sydney, Penrith, Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains regions.

Efforts to restore power have been slowed down by the total fire ban, which requires crews to follow certain procedures. "People who need power for home medical equipment should check their battery supply and consider acting on their back-up plan."
