Why do our accents change when we live overseas?Got a mate who has lost their Aussie twang? It turns out our brain is adapting to find our tribe. A simpler explanation is that you'd like to be more readily understood - as I found out. I find this article a little “weak”. As an ex-Aussie living in Scotland, I deliberately change my accent so I can be understood. The Aussie accent elongates the vowel sounds. The Scots shorten them. A compromise is needed.
