Got a mate who has lost their Aussie twang? It turns out our brain is adapting to find our tribe.

Our accent doesn't change, we just slow down our speech & adapt to some local vernacular in an effort to be polite & understood.

Because we get sick of being asked to repeat what you just said.

Because people overseas can’t understand our Aussie slang so one has to try to speak prop- er- ly

This is not news and they very well know it . It`s called dumbing down We the People so we become Sheeple.

I find this article a little “weak”. As an ex-Aussie living in Scotland, I deliberately change my accent so I can be understood. The Aussie accent elongates the vowel sounds. The Scots shorten them. A compromise is needed. (Btw, after a while abroad, Aussie accents sound “odd”)

A simpler explanation is that you'd like to be more readily understood - as I found out.

Why you're better off paying a mortgage broker yourselfReform of broker pay is long overdue. Hayne's proposals deserve to be adopted, whole-heartedly, writes Jess_Irvine Jess_Irvine Seriously why are mortgage brokers even a thing? What do they do that any average person couldn't do themselves? I get it that there are many disadvantaged people who need help, but brokers shouldn't be allowed near them. Jess_Irvine This will spell disaster for mortgage brokers. When the punters find out they have to pay for the service, they will do it themselves. Australians are not big on paying fees for services. I would hate to own a mortgage broking franchise. Jess_Irvine Could you please provide us with some factual evidence, on how you came to your conclusions other than copying Haynes who obviously is copying someone else without doing their own independent research?

The Minister, the tip-off and the union raids: Why Michaelia Cash is appearing in courtFederal Small Business Minister Michaelia Cash will be cross-examined by the Australian Workers' Union this week, as they fight to shut down what they say is a politically-motivated investigation. She should be appearing in prison. Easily one of the more dishonest politicians. I thought Trumble and her threw someone else under the bus. Didn't their deliberate deception take? This should be just the start of a bigger investigation by our new Federal Anti Corruption body in our new government to investigate collusion between a private political party and the Director of Public Prosecutions not to charge the staff member who tipped off the media.

Why millennials are using the word 'partner'Forget 'boyfriend' or 'girlfriend', relationships of all lengths and seriousness are going under the one title now . George Orwell made some excellent points about the impoverishment of language. , “...it's more than eight times more popular today than it was 15 years ago...” Over what base? Is it because the individuals all share the same tattoos of very average Russian dolls, sailors and clocks?

Why Australia's economy is not a freak of natureComment: Australia's economy needs to be freed from folklore that's built up around the 27-year stretch sans recession Scott is always bragging n gloating abt 27 yrs of econ boom He is telling d myth if Labor gets in gov there'd be recession Rudd avoided recession by using a cash splash The Bloomberg opinion piece didn't add any value. No mention of high household debt, refinance default risk, or rules against foreign investment. . It's been 'grown' by increasing scales with relentless third-world rates of population growth. Consequently, it's getting ever more third-world in terms of inequality, environmental degradation, low wages growth, urban congestion and other forms of cultural enrichment, too.
