Planning holidays up north? No, I don’t feel like spending my discretionary income in states that exploited the sufferings of my own for political gain. | OPINION

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them any time. When my son calls and says hey, maybe soon we’ll be able to visit him in Brisbane, it’s a little awkward.

It must have paid off as Annastacia Palaszczuk is still using Victorians as figures of dread in the final week of her campaign. The vast majority of Melburnians have cooperated with the difficult things asked of them. We are Australia’s benchmark best now at living safely in dangerous times. We often disagree with each other about lockdown but we're united in our lack of enthusiasm for interstate pronouncements about our situation.

No, not all Queenslanders or people from NSW. But the tired old interstate mockery turned nasty with all the #Sictoria hashtags and airy pronouncements about superior management. But there’s a way to do it without rubbing our noses in it. Tasmania set a date - December 1 - and a benchmark - fewer than five cases of unknown transmission over 28 days. Their premier, Peter Gutwein, said it was "pleasing to see [Victoria] driving their numbers so low" but they’d monitor the situation.

I agree

Yes. both Queensland and Victoria...run by grandstanding Premiers , where political self-interest is at its worst.

FFS!

It would be like taking a time machine that would take me back 30 years to be able to visit redneck Queensland. No thanks.

Aww, another precious journalist, consider if situation had of been reversed and Qld or NSW faced rampant covid19 cases, I'm sure self preservation would have kicked in.

Very welcome in Canberra when the borders open - we didn't exploit what you went through and we do nice coffee too

Completely agree, it’s been awful to watch.

I’ll be spending my coin right here in Victoria thanks. “Sicktoria” still sticks in my memory. Disgusting show of self absorbed political point scoring which made many of us feel unwanted in our own country. clickforvic

So agree feel let down by NSW

Oh FGS Why are you joining in? You are an Australian first and foremost aren't you? This is like the divisive American crap.

I get the feeling that particularly Qld & WA don’t have a robust system in place to control an outbreak. Hopefully, lessons have been learnt by all and more importantly, acted upon following the Ruby Princess/NSW Aged Care and Vic’s. hotel quarantine/Aged Care VictoriaBitter

Yeah remember those floods back in 2011 and we all had to dip into pockets to help out and did it without questioning. Not sure id be as happy about it a second time around. Smug

You're a twit. Visit your son in QLD.

Totally agree. I can guarantee I will never holiday in QLD.

Let them eff off and form their own separate arse end of Australia then. They’re all migrating up here anyway.

I’ve been saying this all along. Couldn’t agree more

Regional Vic didn’t want Melburnians during pandemic. Qld & WA Premiers should be ashamed of lack of empathy towards Vic & NSW. NSW only closed border on July 8. It’s tempting to be angry but we’re all Australians. Qld Premier treated pandemic like a State of Origin 😏 QLDvotes

They don’t trust Dan! That is fundamentally why they won’t open the borders to us!! They know he is a snake!

Read this, loved it cause I live it. 100% agree. Aus politicians should be ashamed. Vic took one for the team. Did it hard for the rest of Aus cause if it wasn’t us it would have been someone else. My list Qld absolutely last, NSW dropping fast. You aren’t Adern ladies.

Well said boycotqueensland

Well we were extremely happy that being in Victoria and elderly mum in Queensland their caution made know she would be safe! And yes we will be up there spending our money in appreciation as soon as it’s ok to do so!

What a load of rubbish. In Queensland, the CHO decides, in an health emergency, whether borders are to be open, or not, and, even if it was decided by the sitting government, it was to keep Qlders safe, and nothing to do with the political point scoring you have been involved in.

no one wants whiney people like this in their towns anyway. lookatmoi

Media’s agenda to divide all people within their own country

Completely agree, not one cent of my tourist dollar will be spent in Qld for the next 10 years !

Stay out! 😂😂😂

only when work pays me to. 😉

Not sure what your point is. I won't come down to where you are spreading diseases, you stay where you are and don't spread them up here. Deal? MurdochRoyalCommission

Feel exactly the same

And so you should spend your holiday money in your own State.... to think you did otherwise would upset Queenslanders having you in eye shot.

Good!! stay where you are. We don't want or need you here.

Like people deciding to cancel their Age subscription due to its partisan reporting & its attempts to undermine the Victorian public health effort.

PhilCygnus Wow .. go ahead insult all the decent people who supported Victoria... Fantastic Angus Well Done !

Wow...you can't even get into NSW, and Qld is copping it.

Exploited? Protecting our own citizens represents Victoria being exploited’? Would you rather we kept our borders open and have the virus spread in our states. I tell you what, I live in Western Australia. If that’s how you see things, we won’t come there either.

We’re all Australians. Please stop running the Liberal line of trying to divide Australia.

Totally spending my money in regional Victoria where Victorian businesses can benefit. Looking forward to numerous road trips ans seeing more of my own state 😁

Grow up Victoria!!!!

It makes sense to spend money in Victoria as the businesses need everyone’s help, especially this year.

declanmartin75 Hmmm. Everyone’s going to deal with this grief differently. Personally, I don’t think blaming whole states is useful. But being bitter towards some very divisive and unhelpful politicians and opinionated media types, I can very much support.

I'm pitching my tent in regional Vic where the struggling hicks will appreciate my presence.

I’m still in shock that state borders were closed at all. The whole thing is a disgrace!

Probably the best thing for Victoria, for a while, is to keep the money in the state. Help the locals first. The businesses in Vic have been enduring the hardest lockdown and need the most help. RebuildVic1st

Am I the only one enjoying watching the states bickering like children?

Sad comment. Division within and without.

Come to NSW, the corruption State.

Cancelled a Xmas trip to Sydney to visit family. Going to country Victoria instead. My NSW family just don’t get it.

This fear mongering and bagging Victorians and Syndey people must end. The numbers are so low that Australia should be safest place to travel for all Australians. I'm sick of this fear propaganda by state premiers especially WA and QLD. I'm over being told where we can go.

What garbage

Job seeker or job keeper no money for holiday’s

'deign to let' you in? It wasn't about snobbery (as you well know). It was about protecting vulnerable communities - elderly, infirm, indigenous. People move to Qld for retirement and in many cases for the tonic of lifestyle change. See ya, or not.

Victoria has helped carry the rest of the nation for 120 years. For 120 years we have put in more than we have taken out. Why the hell did we bother? When we needed them, they were nowhere, or worse, used us as a punching bag for their own sadistic amusement. auspol

Who is this speaking for?

Agreed. Queensland- we won’t be seeing you anytime soon.

This post is promoting divisiveness.

I thought this might be another article bashing Victorians but was pleasantly surprised. I'm going to support regional Vic - it's been a tough year with bushfires and covid.

Not a single life is saved by locking state borders. That person who would have travelled from Victoria to Qld and given Covid to 10 people there will stay in Victoria and give it to another 10 people here. It's a zero sum game. We are all Australians.

Chill brah

The hooorrooor!

lmao what !!!!!!!!!! what does this mean !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a single dollar of my disposable income will find its way into the hands of QLD'ers while the State is led by heartless pollies who let babies die to preserve a few electoral votes. QLD just became last on my world travel list ... just a tad behind Wuhan.

So all of the QLD holiday industry is at fault for what the Labor government did?

Here here Michelle. See you in the NT and of course Victoria

Wow this is incredibly lame

Provincial has become the spike in the spoke of what I thought was the Nationalism Of ' We Are Australian' .

Good we don’t want you

Have decided I won’t be visiting Queensland for 5 years except for work

Ridiculous attitude. Thank the Qld gov. for caring enough for your son that they kept him separated from the infected states like Victoria and N.S.W. The only reason for not going north is that it is far too hot.

Let’s secede! That’ll show em

QLD’s COVID day of reckoning will come. Two of the states largest sewage plants have shown positive results and the silence of positive cases continues until the votes are counted and a winner is announced. I will sit here on my couch and enjoy this one as it gets played out.

Lol

We’re not Australians - we’re QLDers, NSW people etc. As one of the many long suffering Victorians (Melburnians) Premiers of other states have rarely expressed their support for us as individuals. They can stick their Coral Reef up their bigoted backsides!

Try being from VIC (those borders are still closed btw). Maybe if we saw stronger (or any) leadership from the federal government our federation wouldn’t be falling apart!

But ScottyFromMarketing screams that borders must open now! ... when he thinks it suits him... auspol

And you think Qlders want to come to Victoria and visit? The COVID capital of Australia? Pull up your socks and go visit your son. Life’s too short.

I am going to be driving around country Victoria, spending my money in places that have done it hard.

kuku27 I agree

or west? It's shameful. 'We're all in this together' !!

Third wave risk: Why Melbourne could wind up back in lockdownThe Victorian government is being urged to increase capacity limits for pubs, bars and hotels across the state, saying the current limit is “stifling” already struggling businesses. most if not all had masks, so that situation puts many people & masks to the test, hopefully we dont hear anything more. Coronavirus antibodies have declined rapidly in the UK population. But here's why we shouldn't be too worriedCoronavirus antibodies declined rapidly in the British population during summer, according to a study led by Imperial College London, suggesting people may have a waning immunity because antibody protection after a COVID-19 infection may not last long. Might, may, perhaps, possibly, who knows? This article's only known fact is that antibodies do NOT remain in our system. coronavirus antibodies It means Herd Immunity won't work and the approach the Australian states and New Zealand took is the correct one.
