ANALYSIS: Why are millions of unemployed people excluded from our monthly 'unemployment' data?

Now, the households that participate in the monthly survey have to fill in a questionnaire and the questions are specific to a two-week period.

Even if you're available to start work in a month's time, it doesn't matter. You don't meet the definition of unemployed for the labour force survey. It's what ABS statisticians, Treasury officials, Reserve Bank officials and economists use to find the unemployment rate.

looking forward to this exact same 'analysis' we've been receiving nigh on 8 years, in 3 months time - when has it ever meaningfully changed?

According to the LNP, it's the same formula they will be calculating net Zero.

MSMWatchdog2013 John Winston Howard, is why. That, and Radical Neoliberal Ideology. There solution is easy. Implement a Job Guarantee System that is Federally Funded and locally administered. GreenNewDeal VoteTNL

The stats are complete and total nonsense I would estimate the rate is maybe 10 to 12 percent unemployed nationally!. I am consulting and living off my savings and I know many others who are doing the same, most also refuse to collect benefits that will be clawed back later!

because 'number goes down' means 'newspoll 2pp goes up', regardless of why.

I’ll take a stab. It’s a LNP government who always hide facts. We are approaching an election.

It’s called “fudging the numbers” to suit the government’s narrative.

Without reading this story, I'm gonna say, coz the government loves to spin shit in there favour, but I'm sure the exact numbers will come out when they need to say the unemployed are what cost us so much money... Just guessing

Like everything else the LNP Government is involved in - they’re fudging the numbers creativeaccounting

So basically it’s a “guesstimate”. We literally have NFI of what the true employment/unemployment rate is.

This Govt has single handedly smashed any trust we had ....😪

How about telling us how many are on jobseeker?

The figures would not look as good if they were included!

Yeah-nah, I’m not lookin’ fa werk right now, but maybe tumorra. Guess da unemployment rate’s gonna skyrocket soon!

Why do we keep measuring unemployment rate with the same tool that is totally useless

now i get it!
