Why Aiia Maasarwe’s killer will not be jailed for life

Codey Herrmann was sentenced in October 2019 to 36 years jail with 30 non-parole by the Supreme Court of Victoria for the rape and murder of Aiia Maasarwe.

Ms Maasarwe, a Palestinian-Israeli international student, was only 21 when she was randomly attacked by Herrmann while she was FaceTiming her sister, walking in Bundoora on her way home from a comedy show.Codey Herrmann murdered Aiia Maasarwe. Herrmann had never been convicted of a crime before and his actions that day caused “extreme private grief and enormous public distress”, their reasons for judgment said.

This is beyond. Hope he has fun in jail.

Another example of the perpetrator getting sympathy, while the victims family have to live with the loss. These judges have lost the plot.

God I hate judges. So completely out of touch from community expectations. An innocent human life means nothing to them while they stack points to reduce a sentence just because of a harder upbringing, its all statistics to them with no care whatsoever. This girl is dead forever.
