WHO insists halting of Hydroxychloroquine trial was for safety review | Sky News Australia

The World Health Organization has halted a trial of the anti-malaria drug Hydroxychloroquine - the drug touted by US President Donald Trump to treat coronavirus - despite there being no safety issues reported within the trial. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the decision to suspend the trial was out of an abundance of caution.

"The Executive Group has implemented a temporary pause of the hydroxychloroquine arm within the solidarity trial while the safety data is reviewed by the Data Safety Monitoring Board," Mr Ghebreyesus said.
