An 86-year-old grandmother grieving the sudden loss of her son has been told by the National Disability Insurance Agency to take over the care of his 24-year-old disabled daughter.Advocates say there has been a rise into the number of NDIS participants whose funding has been cut

"Mum and Dad were teachers at the same school so they enrolled Laura there so they were never far away," Laura's brother Liam said. "We had that planning meeting and it was another four weeks until the NDIS gave us a new plan that unfortunately and unexpectedly didn't include any accommodation supports whatsoever for Laura, and no resources or anything like that to help us investigate those things going forward," he said.Liam said when the family asked why the funding application was rejected, they were told the current arrangement seemed to be working.

"There does seem to have been an assumption that because I am here, because I have been able to accommodate Laura since Shane's death, that I can continue to do that, and I really can't," Mrs Thatcher said.
