Former nurses have been called from retirement to assist in the fight against COVID-19. One retired teacher wants her profession to follow suit.

Linda Ireland says the idea — like many good ideas — came to her from personal experience.

"Two of my families had parents who are working from home with children. I couldn't possibly see how you could support them all," Linda told The Drum. After a few emails to parents, 'Mimi's School' was underway. She now spends several hours a day providing teaching and support to six of her primary school-aged grandchildren — all at a safe distance of course, via Zoom."We do Zoom conferencing, writing, stories, sometimes it would be a science lesson.

"Now we're in this rather unique situation of a global pandemic, we're kept at home and we have all this time," she told The Drum.

If so concerned why not get teachers in wearing full hazmat suits while in school.

Would retired teachers know the current norms on radical gender theory?

Get back to school teachers stop binding behind the Union apron get some spine.....

If retired teachers find out what they're teaching kids now they'll freak

No. They’ve worked hard in their careers and they don’t deserve the stress.

Or parents just deal with it. We are. Not ideal but your kids you suck it up

Who pays?

Quite frankly I wouldn’t put myself in a position to get covid19 or abuse from the uninformed. My former colleagues are working their fingers to the bone and who thanks them. I don’t see the parliament open!

How about you morons getting a lesson or two from 'school of the Air' Been teaching isolated children since the peddle radio. Visit Alice Springs just as a starter.

.Fascinating - if the teacher has retired only recently, say in last two years, that might work. VCE Study designs in Vic. regularly updated & often given major rewrites, as are studies in Foundation & Yrs. 7 -10. Anyone out for 5, 10+ yrs., would have no idea of curriculum now

How long is this stupidity going to be condoned for? Virtually everything is getting destroyed and harmed intentionally just for a virulent common cold. Ridiculous.

Teachers are currently being paid, working from home and vit8ng for Daniel Andrews at the next election. Like building workers, dock workers, ambos, fire fighters and nurses.

Um.... retired would be elderly, no? Yeah, how about NO!

Yep, retired teachers would be bang up to date with curriculum. Fools

You are aware that thousands of teachers in each state have been stood down and have been unpaid for weeks? Why on earth should retired teachers, many of whom sign agreements not to return or compete with current employment opportunities effectively take paid work?

Given the main point of isolation is to protect the vulnerable & keep hospitals from being inundated, why would anyone think that having retirees out & about would be a good idea? Dumb.🤪

Schools are basically child minding centres, learn from home supplements their education.

At Least the Retired Teachers Knew How to teach unlike today’s that Push Political Agendas & a PC Culture

No. My partner is a teacher and the amount of parent whiteants out there is truly scary. Imagine then going directly into the nest. No. She stays with me

Retail workers serve the teachers at checkouts day in day out. Yet 'some' teachers can't do their bit and get in a classroom and do their jobs.

Can’t visit grandparents though?

What if teachers went back to work.........Their union is not looking good under the circumstances.

They’ll get sick and governments would end up paying a pile of sick leave.

Have you heard of schools?

Not needed, the advice from the government has been spot on the whole way through. Kids and teachers are safe to return to school so let's get them back to school.

An interesting idea but the term'lower social class' doesn't sit well. Economic but not social, surely.

What if teachers listen to professors of epidemiology rather than listen to each other and their union spreading fear and calling it mixed messages? What if teachers showed the same commitment as Coles and woolies workers? What if teachers got stood down without pay?

What if teachers actually stopped the unionised laziness, acted like adults & for once put their job & students before their union-driven focus on trying to work even less than they are supposed to? 12-16 weeks holiday. 8.45-3.30 workdays Student free days. A joke.

What if the bludging teachers went back to work & did their job!

Gee I suggested this weeks ago those with experience of online learning, flexible delivery, distance education.... nah the noisy activists, who are now complaining they have to spend time with their own munchkins ..they ridiculed, and mocked,... still are making it political

There are unemployed CRT’s out here wanting work!!!! The usual money used for sick teachers could be going to these teachers and smaller class sizes online could make a huge difference!!!!!!

Why on earth would they?

What if pre-service teachers were ...

Not a bad idea at all but instead what about using the casual teacher workforce instead?

My child had 8 minutes of contact with the class teacher this whole week! That means the work falls completely on me while I try and do my own ! How hard are these teachers trying?

What if teacher's followed expert health advice and simply went back to school?

Why this former drug cop turned to the black market to get help for his war-veteran son's PTSDArmy veteran David Hill says cannabis helped ease his post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms and is now pushing for better access to the drug for other veterans. Interesting how that works,.... It's a crime worth ripping families apart when he's being paid to. But when it's something he wants, it's no longer do bad. It reminds me of watching cops rack lines when they do their drug sweep of a club on the weekends. So hypocritical Time to legalise cannabis. Boost to the economy, have the same rules as booze. No driving, public smoking, under 18 not allowed. Surely it can be done
