My life experience tells me Professor Adrian Piccoli's proposal for fully funding private primary schools deserves thorough consideration. We can fund choice without funding inequality

on the condition they accept all students and don't charge fees. Schools would be free to decline but they would lose all state funding as a result.I went to five public schools across inner-city Sydney, regional NSW and south-east Queensland and finally a Steiner school on Sydney's north shore.

With hindsight, what Steiner education does best is that it's cross-disciplinary. It emphasises the connections between things and teaches through exploration of big ideas – similar to the 21st century vogue for project-based learning. Public schools do a reasonable job of catering for difference but not every school – public or private – suits every child.

My two children go to our excellent local primary school and will probably attend a public high school. Cost and geography would make sending them to my old school a difficult choice and I understand that my children are not me. Supporting diverse educational styles benefits everyone. It allows families to make choices about what is important to them, creates positive competition in the sector, and provides for innovation and experimentation so schools of all types can learn from each other about what works.

I went to 16 and can assure you.. drop religion, bring back the classics, Latin, Greek and teach life skills eg. driving, first aid, martial arts and languages, massage and dance...respect of all cultures, bar none

what needs to happen is for there to be a six year gradual decrease in fed govt funding to all private schools. Parents will need to pay more as funding decreases. Parents can decide whether to start their children in private schooling or allow them to finish in that system.

There would still be great inequality because private schools with fantastic infrastructure will still be the primary school of choice for the lucky few. The unlucky students will be attending the schools with broken toilet blocks, dirt 'playgrounds', demountable classrooms etc.

That makes all Primary Schools Public schools then. The Private schools would need to hand over all assets and control in return.

Your life experience only proves your an idiot. If you fully fund private primary schools, they aren't private. Which would mean they have to conform to state legislation and thus remove the entire lure they were set up in the first place. Don't take away the rights of the parent
