A bus carrying a wedding party has plunged into a river in western India killing at least 24 people and injuring others.

The driver lost control of the bus after one of its tyres burst as it travelled on a highway 500km south of New Delhi.

Five people have been taken to hospital suffering injuries. Around 150 thousand people die on India's roads every year. Image: AP
