‘We support the US and Europe’: PGA of Australia breaks silence on Norman’s Saudi tour | app85

The PGA of Australia has delivered a blow to the Saudi-backed venture headed by Greg Norman, whose name is lent to Australian golf’s most prestigious award, after finally breaking their silence on golf’s civil war.

Despite LIV Golf planning to visit Sydney later this year on an exploratory mission to bring a tournament Down Under, the PGA of Australia said it backed the current “ecosystem” where the world’s best players had traditionally been members in the United States or Europe. “The ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia is focused on its strategic alliance with the DP World Tour which is providing unprecedented pathways for our players to progress on that tour, along with the Korn Ferry Tour via the PGA Tour.“We want to provide the best possible opportunities for all Australian touring professionals, and we’re confident that working closely with the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour will help us achieve that.

“It is fantastic for our summer of golf that our two Aussie major tournaments, the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship and the Australian Open, are both co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and will kick off their 2022-23 season,” Kirkman said. It’s seen as the most crucial step for legitimacy as American big guns Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed prepare to make their LIV Golf debuts in the second tournament in Oregon this week.
