Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? When mining lobbyist Mick Crowe asks the 250 pro-coal protesters gathered in Mackay's central square whether this is their first ever rally, almost every hand shoots up.
Mick Crowe urges the crowd of pro-coal protesters to win over opponents using logic rather than facts. As director of the Resource Industry Network, an industry-funded lobby group, Mr Crowe's newest job is to lead and amplify a groundswell of support in favour of coal mining. In his telling, this silent local majority has been overshadowed and out-campaigned by loud and powerful blow-ins from down south - the environmentalists determined to stop the Adani Carmichael coal mine.
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson travelled to Clermont to join the pro-Adani protesters, as did mining billionaire Clive Palmer, who has become a sudden electoral force courtesy of an avalanche of paid advertising, strong polling and a preference deal with the Coalition. Former Greens leader Bob Brown led a Stop Adani rally in Mackay on Saturday, next to the pro-coal protest. When the anti-Adani rally starts, some pro-coal protesters heckle with taunts about how the out-of-towners travelled to Mackay .
The billboard features an edited photograph of Labor leader Bill Shorten which makes him appear to hold a "Stop Adani" banner - when in fact the banner was held by a protester, who has been cropped out of the photo. The CoalitionMr Crowe, who is also the managing director of Mackay's G&S Engineering, does not try to engage in partisan politics. He concedes coal will be "absolutely in decline" in 30 or 40 years.
michaelkoziol Coal kills more people than heroin.
michaelkoziol Did Mr Crow have anything to say about the Adani supporter trampling the elderly woman with his horse? Nothing to say about the stones throw at the convoy? Flags ripped off cars? Fireworks being let off? Businesses being told not to serve the anti Adani protestors?
michaelkoziol What a load of Rhubarb. I guess you've forgotten the Reclaim Australia rallies, and marches, and other such nonsense? BTW. Is that Christensen, or his body-double?
michaelkoziol Well aren’t they a clever bunch NOT. When the reef dies their town will die.. as will 3/4 of Queensland’s tourism. 200 jobs versus 70000!!
michaelkoziol Hey George is back on town
michaelkoziol
michaelkoziol Fact 1. Global weather is not warming and has been cooling for 16-18 years Fact 2. Crooked Indian family from India Adani is being bankrolled by the Australian tax payer Fact 3. While Aussie farmers pay high prices for water, and rediculous amounts at that, Adani gets theirs free
michaelkoziol Bless their souls. They probably think they're going to get long term jobs out of these mines. 🙄 auspol
michaelkoziol Hey is George in town ?
michaelkoziol So you cover this, but not the pro environment, refugee or Indigenous protests that happen regularly? Do you wonder why we go off at you saying that you are biased? AusVotes2019
michaelkoziol Giving my surname a bad name
michaelkoziol Kodak should have organised rallies for film cameras!
michaelkoziol Youse all drive a car so can't be against Adani yelled the mining funded protestor
michaelkoziol Is that the Member for Manila?
michaelkoziol Theres about 70000 live in Mackay , its not a Modest Town , Sugar , Coal , I & my young family lived there for 25 yrs , worked in Coal , had a small Business there for 11 yrs . Head a little North to Beautiful AirlieBeach & see what the response will be .They rely on the Reef
michaelkoziol Coal mining and FIFO Coal Miners have ruined Mackay....I was born and lived there for 30 years and used to be proud of it....I go back now and all find is a dysfunctional city full of bigoted self absorbed imbeciles.
michaelkoziol Nice of George Christensen to find a gap in his busy schedule probing into Philippine culture.
michaelkoziol I think they are defending jobs rather than energy alternatives.
michaelkoziol Pro coal activism. You don’t see that every day.
michaelkoziol Manill vanilly man. world famouse cheating on his entire electorate.
michaelkoziol up north tourism makes billions n d Reef is dying why would they want new coal mine? only 800 jobs NOT 15k promised They wont be paying tax for years so we'd be giving away free coal We r a 1st world country are we so desperate to grab a foreign con miner?
michaelkoziol Is that George how’s the weather in Manila mate?
michaelkoziol Surely they're not that stupid
michaelkoziol There's a few too many rednecks in Mackay .
michaelkoziol Do they also support whale oil?
michaelkoziol The future for Australia is in hydrogen gas and renewables. Japan and china will be a huge export opportunity. Any intervention to prop up coal will leave these places even more destitute because of their failure to adapt.
michaelkoziol Ooh, “hundreds”... 😂🤣🙄
michaelkoziol We should ask why they aren't pushing for general dental to be included under Medicare.....
michaelkoziol Sad.
michaelkoziol Looks like diabetes is going to kill them before climate change does.
michaelkoziol He will be voted back in
michaelkoziol The 'COALMAN' is missing Where did you get ALL the shirts Michael MANILA no DOUBT 'ABSENTEEMAN' Another QLD. L🤪🤪Ny!!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪NOT a FAIR DINKUM AUSSIE!! 😠😠😠😠😠
michaelkoziol Who knew idiocy was so infectious
michaelkoziol What’s Christensen doing in his own electorate? 🤔 auspol
michaelkoziol Just hardworking people who want jobs and a future. Its all good and well to deride coal but we are an extremely low carbon emitter and all of our heavy industry has been sent offshore.
michaelkoziol short sighted fools
michaelkoziol The member for Manilla with some random Collingwood supporter...
michaelkoziol Population of 80k and 250 pro coal supporters turn out... very overwhelming Not
michaelkoziol Wow. Who votes for these horrid people?
michaelkoziol Is that Mackay or Manila? I thought that looked like George in the pic.
