Netball Australia recognises growing criticism of the game's 'whiteness', with just one Indigenous player for the last two years | sarah_keoghan

Netball Australia chief executive Marne Fechner admits netball's pathways fail to nurture Indigenous athletes, with a full review into the sport's lack of diversity set to be delivered in October.

"Participation rates sit at around 4 per cent of our netball community, which is great as it means we are sitting on par in term of population," Fechner said. "But what we are not seeing is those athletes coming through the system."We've made a commitment to Sharon [Finnan-White] and Marcia [Ella-Duncan] that we are not comfortable with the fact we haven't seen Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Diamonds for a while ... we want it to be better.

"What is it in our high-performance pathways that obviously isn't nurturing and providing an opportunity for Indigenous athletes to thrive?"

sarah_keoghan You mean ... aside the fact is as boring as Cricket, AFL and Rugby League?

sarah_keoghan Too many tall whities ? Must be a conspiracy. After all there aren’t any indigenous players in the NRL

sarah_keoghan What a racist comment “whiteness” has become. Said so commonly with such derision that it speaks to a loathing of one’s skin colour for vast swaths of the world’s population. Such a long way from the content of their character, not the colour of their skin.

sarah_keoghan The teenage social media department dweeb who tweeted this obviously knows NOTHING about the super-netball comp.

sarah_keoghan It is also overtly sexist as there are no males in the top teams, or at any weekend comps for that matter.

sarah_keoghan “Whiteness”❓😂 Err... you know... Fowler, Nelson, Sunshine Sammi, Sam Wallace, Aitken, Dehaney, Dumwenda... maybe problem is too many, ummm, overseas, players... 😉😉😉

sarah_keoghan

sarah_keoghan Oh once again it’s bad to be white is it ? Fk off

sarah_keoghan Easy fix. Just find a whole heap of people of colour and just ‘make them’ play. There.

sarah_keoghan What about the lack of 'whiteness' in the 100m sprint or the lack of 'blackness' in the 100m freestyle. Gutter journalism

sarah_keoghan In the male centric oval football codes there are significant numbers of indigenous players. With netball I would guess lack of talent is not the issue. What distinguishes the path to footy vs the path to netball in its ability to draw in indigenous talent?

sarah_keoghan sport & media a hive of divisive ‘critical race theory’ . . . now banned in US federal bureaucracy . . . do the same ScottMorrisonMP

sarah_keoghan Put them all in burqas. Problem solved.

sarah_keoghan Have you noticed that it's only a 'lack of diversity' when it is something majority white? I don't hear the same calls for the NBA to be more white, or a 100m men's final to include a couple more slow whiteys

sarah_keoghan 🤢💤

sarah_keoghan you should play because you are good enough you should not get a spot just because you are black auspol

sarah_keoghan Maybe they don’t like the game or aren’t good enough.

sarah_keoghan Netball is 'white'? Yeah, you might wish to take a look at the Super Netball some day.

sarah_keoghan From what i have seen they will all be Sudanese soon anyway. I've been wondering about that. Bit hard for regular white 6 foot girls up against 6 foot 10 Sudanese. Should have height limits. How about a few transgender (born male) too?

sarah_keoghan Ohh my... Ya kidding right..

sarah_keoghan And they use a white ball and have mainly sparkling white teeth, so racist. Cancel everything!

sarah_keoghan I have never wondered about this issue and have no intention of wondering about it now.

sarah_keoghan Yeah, we need a quota! 🙄

sarah_keoghan If you see 'white people' and have a problem - then you're the racist. 3% of the population cannot be present in every sport / media / job and so on.. this is absolutely moronic race-baiting.

sarah_keoghan Criticism from who?

sarah_keoghan Check out the Australian cricket team.

sarah_keoghan Oh look ... another racism article.

sarah_keoghan Oh, for god’s sake. Aboriginal Australians are just 3% of the population, you fools.

sarah_keoghan So do we force people to play a sport they don't want to play, or do we fold the league?

The makeup options are limited, but Rumbi is teaching women of colour to embrace their skinFor decades, makeup brands have largely neglected women with deeper complexions — but after experiencing the lack of diversity first-hand, Rumbi Dzaimudzengi is determined to help women in the same situation. Australia definitely needs more diversity in makeup at the lower price point. Darker skin is so often excluded from the ranges of the larger brands or they have only minimal choice, and then it’s not stocked in stores. 25 pale shades and 2 dark is not good enough. Isn't that cultural appropriation?

Inside the ‘guarded’ Curry-Kenny familyEver since Lisa Curry and Grant Kenny began to dominate Australia’s sporting scene in the late 1970s, the golden couple found themselves under a spotlight they knew they were never going to shake. Let's hope Lisa Curry doesn't cash-in on 'celebrity grief syndrome'. Bindi Irwin did after her dad was killed in 2006. Samuel Johnson did when his sister died of cancer a few years ago. Both of them went on to win 'Dancing With The Stars'. When death becomes a career highlight. Prob time to now leave them alone. What a strange sentence. Did they wait 40 years to break the news?

Should Super Netball be focusing on better marketing itself to women?Super Netball could be missing a trick by not marketing itself to its key audience. But doing so might be easier said than done. Totally agree! I’m 27 and I love watching this competition on tv as I’ve followed previous comps when I was younger. Now I’d rather not go because it’s purely targeted at primary kids! Also the super shot is something I’m not interested in Probably, I enjoy watching netball, I don’t really bring it up though.. and take this however you want but I highly doubt I’d be as interested if it was all dudes playing, I don’t know why I’m not watching to perve.. like I’d rather watch men’s cricket on the flip side When did Netball become Super Netball?

It’s clear Daniel Andrews will not be ‘taking the fall’ for hotel quarantine | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Paul Murray says it has now become abundantly clear who will be the fall person for Melbourne’s hotel quarantine debacle and “it’s not going to be Daniel Andrews”.\n\nMr Murray said despite Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ consistent claims that he will be held “ultimately responsible,” it’s now obvious the Victorian Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp will instead be held to account for the bungle.\n\nAll other states in the country used either police or the Australian Defence Force – or in some cases both – to guard their hotel quarantine facilities.\n\nHowever, Victoria opted to instead employ a private security company for the job, a move widely considered to be a major factor in the virus escaping the facilities causing the city’s second wave.\n\nIt has emerged from the COVID-19 Hotel Quarantine Inquiry that Mr Crisp was the one who made the final decision regarding the use of a security firm.\n\n“So he (Daniel Andrews) could have overruled anyone who made any decision anywhere to make sure hotel quarantine worked, but because there was some very good money for some very well-connected security firms, well ‘we don’t want to get in the way’,” Mr Murray said.\n\n“The emergency management commissioner could never be overruled, but the chief medical officer could be overruled, the police commissioner could be overruled.”\n\nImage: Getty DanielAndrewsMP Can we add NSW Ruby Princess debacle to that?
