'We do not consent': Sydney Uni academics divided over new Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation proposal

Last week, Dr Spence wrote to the centre's board proposing an alternative arrangement. Rather than spend funds on academics and scholarships for a small group, he suggested making better use of the university's existing resources and freeing up money for more scholarships.

Dr Spence wrote: "Over the life of the funding agreement, we believe that around 1100 students could benefit.'' In a letter sent to Dr Spence on Sunday afternoon, the academics say "it was unacceptable for the vice-chancellor of this university to speak in the name of its academic staff without our consent''."You speak ... without any direct consultation with the disciplines concerned and without any reference to academic board."

Signatories to the letter include sociology professor emerita Raewyn Connell, migration specialist professor Emeritus Stephen Castles, and professor of English, John Frow.

Academics at climate strike

And do these same “enlightened” academics lambast Confucian Institutes for spreading Chinese Civilisation (with totalitarian characteristics)? The western self-loathing left usually are mute on the subject of Xi Jing Ping and the excesses of his dictatorship.

Close Sydney University down. rabidgreenlunaticleftcircus

The damn lefties can’t bear us to have any cultural traditions. It drives them crazy that western civilisation is so rich and continues to dominate worldwide.

it is about money The uni is not abt scholarly pursuit but they chase d money like Chinese students r cash cows They use sandstone fact as a draw card but d quality of lectures with casual staffs questioanble

We are a western country – even though we have substantial numbers of people from non-European countries. If you disagree strongly with Western influences just go to a country that doesn’t have many.

It’s only a thought but due to the high levels of toxic fumes spewing out of our universities, like Chernobyl, we should Bury them under 400m of cement and steel, not allowing humans to go within the Exclusion Zone for at least 500 years....

Self-centred, precious and intellectually vapid ‘academics’. Move on please and let adults expose students to a wide body of literature so they can make well-informed opinions.

'Perverse' loan incentive funneling students into uni rather than TAFEThe NSW Skills Minister has called on the federal government to extend the HECS tertiary loan system to TAFE, arguing there is currently a 'perverse incentive' for students to choose university over a trade because there is no up-front cost HECS funding is to expedite an individual's ability to become job ready and make a living. If TAFE is that pathway to accomplish that goal, then it's a freaking awesome idea to extend HECS to TAFE! TAFE would need to drastically up it's standards & oversight before that could be justified. Why not make TAFE affordable ['cheaper'] so that kids don't have to go in debt to learn a trade in the first place? You know, like it used to be.
