Scientists collected water samples at West Lakes in Adelaide today, searching for PFAS chemicals after the substance was found in soil samples taken last week. 9News

A total of 200 residents are known to have it in their soil, with another 500 homes close to the contamination also warned.Peter Dolan from the Environmental Protection Agency said the scientists were being "proactive".

"PFAS will only affect you if you consume it, so it's either through drinking water, eating food that's affected through PFAS, or for young children, putting dirty hands in mouths," he said.Elevated levels have been found in the soil. "The measures that were put in place to protect the residents against cadmium should be sufficient to protect them against PFAS," Mr Dolan said.

Melbourne woman begs to attend dad’s funeral in SAA Melbourne woman set to miss her father’s funeral in Adelaide on Wednesday is praying for a last resort. Considering all the other options - such as having a memorial/wake after lock-down is lifted - getting yourself a special exemption and possibly carrying the virus across state borders is more like a 'first desire' than a 'last resort', wouldn't you say? We had to watch our young cousins funeral livestreamed. It was devastating we couldn't be there. I suggest she does the same.
