The University of Adelaide's most recent former vice-chancellor Peter Rathjen inappropriately touched and kissed female colleagues after a work function, the state's anti-corruption commissioner has found.

Professor Rathjen took an indefinite leave of absence in May, with Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Bruce Lander later revealing that allegations of misconduct, and the university's manner of dealing with them, were under investigation.

Mr Lander said Professor Rathjen was present at the university function with the two women on April 11, 2019. "It was all the worse having regard to his position within the university and the two women's relative positions in the university." In a statement, Professor Rathjen apologised to the women, but argued there was "no need for this investigation", which he described as "procedurally inadequate".

Chief scientist Alan Finkel fires back on gas criticism from colleaguesDr Alan Finkel has defended his position on the use of natural gas after being criticised by some of the nation's leading climate change scientists, saying it would remain one of the nation's key energy sources | npomalley npomalley What we are witnessing is the Trumpification of Australia. We see it with Brendon Nelson all the time & senior public servants in senate estimates. If the media believes in democracy (and we really can’t be sure anymore) it needs to be change the way it covers politics. Quickly. npomalley How strange: 'Dr Finkel wrote that he has not commented on an expanded role of gas for industry'. The govt is about to embark on increasing fossil fuel use, while ignoring the Paris Agreement, and Dr Finkel has nothing to say? We need evidence and expertise not silence. npomalley So per his letter, he believes gas should continue to be available (ie maintain current system), and then states he is not commenting on expanding the gas industry. If he's an expert, he should give his opinion on need vs risks of expansion, if not, defer to AEMO and others.
