Premier Gladys Berejiklian told residents to prepare themselves for"higher case numbers in the next few days" as she announced the second record-breaking day in her state on Friday, after 262 infections on Thursday.

Photo: Brook Mitchell/Getty Images Of the new local cases, 120 are linked to a known case or cluster with 95 being household contacts and 25 identified as close contacts.NSW Health said 91 cases were in isolation throughout their infectious period and 48 were in isolation for part of their infectious period.The 291 cases on Friday mark a new record in NSW since the coronavirus pandemic first begun.
The previous record this year was 262 on Thursday. In 2020, when COVID first ripped through Australia, NSW's daily record was 212. There are currently 304 COVID cases in hospital, with 50 people in intensive care and 22 of those on ventilators.

Perspective is important in times like these. The media is hyperbolic. Death hurts and it's tragic but it's part of life. We don't stop driving because it's killed more people in 12 months opposed to the 18 months of covid in Aus.
