Markus Babbel finally has his man, with the Western Sydney Wanderers poised to announce Bundesliga star Alexander Meier as their marquee signing

.that Meier, 36, has agreed to join the Wanderers and is due to arrive in Sydney this weekend, although the club was unable to confirm the deal when contacted. The veteran German striker has been a free agent since the end of last season, recently training with Major League Soccer outfit Philadelphia Union, where his former teammate Oka Nikolov is an assistant coach.

A tall, versatile forward with a strong goalscoring record, Meier has played his entire career to date in Germany and spent most of it with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he is considered a club legend, scoring 137 times in a total of 379 appearances over 14 years.Babbel has searched high and low for a quality player to lead the Wanderers' attacking line and it appears Meier fits the bill nicely, with his advancing years the only concern on paper.

Meier was the Bundesliga's top scorer in 2014-15, notching 19 goals to beat Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski and Arjen Robben to the golden boot.

Butcher's 'non halal certified' sign changed after complaint upheld by ad watchdogAn Adelaide butcher shop with a sign claiming its products were non halal certified changes its signage after the advertising watchdog upheld a complaint. What utter rubbish. Are we now under Islamic control are we? If the meats not halal certified then it's not. Whats he supposed to just mislead his customers? A good advertising stunt. Whatever embroils the ABCs attention is a victory for that business. I can't see it backfiring on the business.
