WA woman Donna Nelson has emotional reunion with granddaughter after drug importation trial delay

Her family fears she has fallen victim to a romance scam , and some relatives have travelled to Japan to see her.A Western Australian woman accused of attempting to import almost 2 kilograms of methamphetamine into Japan has had an emotional reunion with her three-year-old granddaughter, the first family contact she has had in 18 months.

But on Thursday authorities allowed her three-year-old granddaughter, accompanied by Ms Nelson's lawyer, into Chiba Prison for a brief meeting."But she was … looking really happy, and she was up, her face up talking to the girl." Ms Hilaire said her mother was only allowed out of her cell for half an hour per day and only permitted to speak Japanese.

Ms Hilaire said the family had contacted Interpol and hoped to raise awareness of the danger of romance scams."I'm sure there will be other Australians, not just women, but other Australian men … I don't know how many people this person has put in the same situation as our poor mother's going through.

Ms Jacobs had sent more than $100,000 to the man, who proposed to her before she travelled to meet him.
