The trial of a Perth grandmother accused of smuggling drugs into Japan has been delayed just two days before it was due to commence, with some of her family already en route to the country.

Japanese authorities charged her with importing approximately 1.9 kilograms of an "illegal stimulant" into the country and she has remained in custody for the past 18 months.Her family have previously said Ms Nelson fell victim to a sophisticated "love scam" and may have unwittingly been used as a drug mule.
