Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos has resigned in the wake of Premier Daniel Andrews' testimony to the hotel quarantine inquiry in which he said she was responsible for the program.Jenny Mikakos says she feels she cannot stay in Cabinet following the Premier's testimonyThe Premier said he saw the Health Minister as accountable for the running of the hotel quarantine program
But she defended her handling of the pandemic, and said she disagreed with parts of Mr Andrews statement to the inquiry."In good conscience, I do not believe that my actions led to them.", but said he did not know who decided to use private security contractors to guard guests' rooms.Ms Mikakos said she took responsibility for the department, but said the hotel quarantine program was not her responsibility alone.
Ms Mikakos stood beside Jobs Minister Martin Pakula at a press conference on March 29 when he confirmed security guards would be used to guard hotel quarantine, and those details were also included in a briefing note to caucus on April 8.However the former Health Minister stood by her testimony, saying she did "not recall" becoming aware of security guards' involvement until late May.

Miss_Fleur Inevitable but still brutal pragmatism in action. I for one never forgave Mikakos for her role in deciding that 16 y.o. Koori kids should be locked up in Barwon max security adult prison, which was in breach of the Vic Human Rights Charter:
There has been expression of joy by some at the demise of Jenny Mikakos over the hotel quarantine affair, but the Liberals if in government would have not done better. The Liberals were in government in NSW when the Ruby Princess affair happened.
Under Westminster rules, Jenny Mikakos had to step down. But Martin Pakula has not answered for the failure in contracts for the hire of guards. Both were let down by their departmental heads and they should go also.

In the event, seems like the right thing to do.
Your reporter on tv abcnews at 12 noon on The Health Minister ‘s resignations was incorrect. Please don’t twist her words. Shame ABC.
Individually they did what their PR companies and QC’s suggested .... deny everything.... in the process they became the most dysfunctional government since Turnbull
Good riddance and take the rest of the ALP with you. VicGovernor time to act and dismiss this rabble
Urgent! Hotel Quarantine Royal Commission Required Now ScottMorrisonMP . The Victorian inquiry was a sham.
I do not live in Vic, however have watched all states health ministers multiple times through the pandemic, QLD, TAS, SA, WA, ACT and NT, have showed themselves well. NSW, well Ruby Princess! But Vic stood out as away with the fairies from day one.
Miss_Fleur I am thinking more like Sacrificed at the alter by Dan!
I’m still waiting for someone in NSW to fall for the Ruby princess fiasco
I hope those SECURITY GUARDS also hand in their resignations ...Because they are just as much responsible for the Quarantine fuk up!!
ding dong the witch is dead the lying witch the wicked witch
The wheels on Dan's bus go round and round
LOL 'In good conscience, I do not believe that my actions led to them.' She does not have a conscience. That has been proven by her lack of pro-active actions, enquiry, curiosity, duty of care and leadership.
On ABC News last night, I watched Andrews and Mikakos. I turned to my wife and said, she's about to get a DCM. Although... the 'meeting', making such a suggestion, would have been, at a guess, mid week. 🤔 Thou shalt sacrifice thyself for the good of the party.
Fantastic news!
I don't blame her.
Dan throws another one under the bus. He's getting good at it!
DanielAndrewsMP 780+ dead, 20,000+ infected with pot. long term implications, $1mil plus spent on enq.because GOV officials, which appear to have amnesia, mismanaged, no one appears accountable, economy & lifes of Vics in ruins. This demands more than just sackings/resignations
When it gets to hot in the kitchen one by one they leave! What good news to wake up to.
I know politicians are hard arses but RUOK ?
Mistakes have been made by both state and federal politicians but the increasing politicisation (particularly from the coalition) of the pandemic will be to the detriment of the people. Its not over yet.
