Almost 270 Victorians have been fined for breaching coronavirus restrictions, including a man helping a friend to move a TV across Melbourne.
One case involved a man who told police he was helping a friend move a television some 27 kilometres from Doncaster East to Dandenong and thought it would be OK to stop at a fast food outlet to get a burger. In Melbourne, a man was picked up at 2am for breaching the city's 8pm to 5am curfew after having drinks at a pub with friends.Police also conducted 3841 spot checks on people at homes, businesses and public places across the state.
Outside of those hours, residents can't leave home unless they are shopping for food or essential items, for exercise or permitted work and must stay within a 5km radius of their homes.
smh Unfortunately, the fines are so low they in no way compensate the community for the immense damage done. For many the fines are little more than an inconvenient on-cost to travel and holidays.

The shame is how quicly people turn on each other like neighbours, friends and even relatives did during the early days of communist rule in Europe. This is a fine example of how easily people are brainwashed into conforming. Truly a sad reflection.

Even when the evidence stares them in the face, when lives, jobs, homes are lost, when the majority of the community are doing the right thing, these idiots persist in flouting the laws designed to protect us, restore jobs and get our lives back to normal. Unbelievably stupid.

This far down the track with 278 people dead and people still won’t wear their masks, won’t stay home so obviously fines aren’t working are they.
State is in crisis, crippled our economy to the tune of an additional $12 plus billion, the fines will be a massive help!

VIC will need couple of test cases where the rule breakers humiliated in public and send to jail on top of hefty fine. After several of those people in Melbourne will stand up and listen like misbehaving toddlers 🤣
