A Perth psychologist has been found guilty of murdering his neighbour in what was described as a premeditated frenzied attack that included recording a rehearsal video and making to-do lists.He admitted killing her brother, but said it was self-defenceLuke David Fawcett, 28, was also convicted by a Supreme Court jury of murdering the victim's brother who caught him red-handed when he came to check on his sister the next day.
The state had argued the attack on Ms Collins on Easter Saturday had been planned, with a recording on his phone showing Fawcett confronting an imaginary person while armed with a taser and knife and dressed in a black suit and mask.In the footage, Fawcett is heard saying, "we can do this the easy way, or the hard way. If it's the hard way you will be severely hurt and if you keep pushing me, eventually I will kill you.
Mr Whalley said it appeared Mr Johnson was killed because he was "in the wrong place at the wrong time", having caught Fawcett "red-handed" when he went to his sister's apartment.Ms Collins's body was found in the entrance of her bloodstained apartment, wrapped in a blue tarpaulin that was tied up with bright yellow rope.A neighbour told the Supreme Court she saw Luke Fawcett acting strangely outside the complex and took this photo.
Mr Whalley said the presence of those items was consistent with him "settling in" and "having the run of the place" after her death. He did admit stabbing Mr Johnson, but claimed he had acted in self-defence because Mr Johnson attacked him after assuming he was responsible for Ms Collins's death. The prosecution suggested the murders may have been motivated by a "fantasy" to take over Ms Collins's apartment.
