Nicholas George Boak was charged overnight after being taken into custody a short time after the stabbing death of a 51-year-old man at the Cairns Central Shopping Centre yesterday morning.

A 38-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder over the death of a man at Cairns shopping centre yesterday morning.Mr Boak was not present in court due to concerns about moving him from the watch houseNicholas George Boak was charged overnight after being taken into custody a short time after the stabbing death of 51-year-old Michael Eaton at the Cairns Central Shopping Centre yesterday morning.

However, police prosecutor Codi Dalley told the court watch house staff had concerns about moving Mr Boak to the courtroom."We would require extra time and a specialised team to move him." Magistrate Kevin Priestly initially directed Mr Boak be presented to the court via video link but, after further concern was raised by Ms Dalley about moving Mr Boak within the watch house, that direction was rescinded.

Ms Dalley then told the court she would require extra time to provide a brief of evidence as there was a significant amount of forensic evidence to be examined.The matter was adjourned to return to court on December 15.
