Two earthmoving contractors who completed emergency work to protect a town from floodwater have finally been paid

The SES has apologised for the "oversight" and said invoicing protocols would be reviewed to avoid it happening again. In October 2022, after heavy rain in Victoria's catchments and flood plains, many towns, including Koondrook, were under pressure from floodwater. Mr Verhey said it was a slap in the face for the contractors who left other jobs to respond and protect the town."They're our frontline, and they went over and beyond what was expected, and none of these government agencies see the hard work people put in.More than 12 months later, with the contractors still unpaid, Koondrook was again under pressure from floodwater.

Mr Walsh said arguments over where to place flood protection infrastructure needed to be set aside in favour of the greater good. "A review of VICSES' invoicing protocols during declared operations will also be undertaken to prevent similar oversights during future emergencies."Six years after the journalist and whistleblower last spoke they're still grappling with the fallout
