The US has agreed to suspend plans to impose tarriffs on Mexico, citing satisfaction over a commitment by Mexico to crack down on migration from Central America

The United States and Mexico reached an 11th-hour deal late Friday to crack down on migration from Central America, with President Donald Trump relenting on threats to slap potentially devastating tariffs on the neighboring country.

"I am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico. The Tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the US on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended," Trump wrote on Twitter shortly after returning from a trip to Europe. The tariffs would have clobbered Mexico's economy, which is integrated with the United States and Canada under the North American Free Trade Agreement, with experts warning of a recession and Fitch rating service already downgrading Mexico's credit rating. But the tariffs also drew unusually strong opposition from Trump's fellow Republicans, especially lawmakers from farm states who worried about losing the second largest international market.

Mexico will deploy National Guard troops throughout the country,"giving priority to its southern border" with Guatemala. It will also target human smuggling and trafficking groups.

Why is NZ beating us to gender equality on honours lists? The Order of Australia honours system was set up in 1975 to recognise outstanding achievement and service by all Australians - but in the 40 plus years since, only 30 per cent have been awarded to women. Probably because there is a difference between giving awards because of gender and giving awards because of 'outstanding achievements' ... Are the Maori equally represented in the awards? I bet they are over represented in the youth suicide statistics there, young Maori males in particular. NZ has the highest rate in the OECD, what a terrible price to pay for tokenism vs genuine and universal equality for all. 🤬 FakeNews DrainTheBillabong LeftistPropaganda Qanon
