Union boss John Setka is under fire over comments made about anti-violence campaigner Rosie Batty.

can also reveal that a former deputy president of the Fair Work Commission gave a statement to police alleging that Mr Setka repeatedly intimidated and terrified a woman over several months.

''Bad outcomes for women start with bad attitudes - every woman in Victoria should be treated with respect at all times,'' the spokesman said. ''Rosie Batty is a great Australian and we’re proud of her work in combating family violence. Her advocacy has saved lives and changed lives all across the nation.

As a democratically elected official Mr Setka is hard to remove from his position and would likely require a lengthy internal union process to force him out if he does not stand down. The Labor Party could terminate his membership, but has not done so. The CFMEU is now in crisis in both Victoria and NSW, where police have charged assistant secretary Michael Greenfield with buying cocaine from two union organisers who were allegedly dealing drugs from a union car. The three NSW officials are facing drugs charges and, like Mr Setka, have retained their union roles.

Setka. What the AustralianLabor VictorianLabor stand for

He’s a grub and good to see the lack of morals on show in the ALP. Should’ve been gone years ago but let’s face it, Andrews won’t stand up to him because he’s soft

Why has he not already been removed from his position when it is clear he sents those texts to the woman? Are we waiting for physical violence? Suspended at least? misogy

Criminal connections eh?

Anyone who calls union members thugs are probably thinking the Easter bunny is real. You idiots have been brainwashed by the media.. unions are the people

What a crook

All you right wing bleeding hearts up in arms because of something that was spoken where's your disgust at the treatment of the people on manus and Nauru,I think I know what's more disgusting

What did he do

An apology is not enough. He should be sacked.

mm. I’m no fan of Setka, but half the front page of today’s age for this tripe? I think I feel a Channel 9 tabloid coming on! Vale Fairfax!

Actually on this one Setka may have a point, the story behind her tragedy changed a few times to suit a narrative....and agenda.

Yeah they've lost their right to harass to revile to abuse to bash to rape and to murder. This doesn't affect most men but it obviously affects him.what a shame and I bet his pits stink.

All the labor politicians seem to be very quite. Gutless.

When is this disgusting pig going to be given his marching orders. The Left including the ALP are complete hypocrites not acting on this. The inconsistency between what a union leader can say and a business leader can say is breathtaking.

I think you should leave the union movement and get endorsement as the Minister for defence in the next Fedral labor government he’d be a ripsnorter candidate for that

DanielAndrewsMP AlboMP SenatorWong tanya_plibersek as someone who has always voted AustralianLabor and defended our values, this is utterly disgraceful. As leaders you need to stand up to this thug and demand he resigns. Anything less is rank hypocrisy.

How is this person fit to be a leader and advocate for Aussie workers. Time to replace him with a true leader

Why can’t they nail this fucker, I’m sure he has drug and anything illegal connected to him. Just look at him, bloody grub.

As a payed up and proud unionist, I say that this stain on the reputation of the unions needs to go.

The silence from Plibersek, Wong, Albo, head of ACTU, left wing social commentators, the twitter 💧 social justice warriors is deafening. Damn hypocrisy at its finest.

Ahhh nice! Great to see traditional Union values still being maintained! 🙄 Please get rid of this man! DanielAndrewsMP

Sack him

He needs to go what a foul human

Union Boss: are they Mafia?

it'll take generations to rid Australia of these union thugs, they're the ones Dutton should lock up at Manus Island and throw away the key

Welcome to Dans gilead

why this dickwad in my timeline.

😂😂harden up

The bullying misogynistic creature should be banned from holding any position of authority

Premier Daniel Andrews just hired Rosie......Is he going to step in to get rid of this thug? Or continue to march with Setka’s Union?

Nice one Age. Imagine if he was under fire for all the really bad shit he's done auspol

Al Gore pressures Morrison Government on global warmingHe may be a former US vice-president, but Al Gore stands tall among climate advocates and he's used a visit to Australia to heap pressure on the Morrison Government to take action on global warming. More accurately: Al Gore pressures Morrison Government to do SOMETHING about global warming Al Gore can piss off to wherever he came from. For $320000 I would say that as well.
