Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen has resigned from NSW Parliament following allegations of sexual assault

Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen has resigned from NSW Parliament following allegations he sexually assaulted a sex worker in the Blue Mountains.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro released a statement on Wednesday morning confirming Mr Johnsen had tendered his resignation. It comes a day after revelations Mr Johnsen also offered the woman $1000 for sex in NSW Parliament House.“Today I welcome Mr Johnsen’s resignation from the NSW Parliament,” Mr Barilaro said.

Mr Barilaro issued an apology to the people of the Upper Hunter and said he would always put integrity before politics.“But please be assured the NSW Nationals’ focus has always been, and will always be, on delivering for the Upper Hunter and keeping our communities safe and secure.“ Premier Gladys Berejiklian was giving a COVID-19 update when the statement announcing Mr Johnsen’s resignation was issued on Wednesday.
