Voters ‘see through cash splashes’: Berejiklian’s plea for Upper Hunter | AlexSmithSMH

Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the NSW government will not try to buy votes in the must-win byelection in Upper Hunter, conceding voters see through blatant pork barrelling., Ms Berejiklian said there would not be major funding announcements as seen in other byelections.

“I think the community see through a cash splash,” Ms Berejiklian said in Singleton on Wednesday, in her first visit to the electorate since the May 22 byelection was announced.Ms Berejiklian also issued several pleas to voters to support the Nationals’ candidate David Layzell, saying she needed him in her “team” to ensure a “strong and stable” government.

The government is already in minority after the resignation of former Nationals MP Michael Johnsen who has been accused of raping a sex worker at a secluded outlook, a claim he denies. The Premier also stepped back from comments she made after the byelection was called, when she said it would take a “miracle” for the government to retain the seat, and she “had no doubt” they would lose it.
