The 76-year-old claimed he was a dentist in another country but was unable to provide any documentation.

A man who claimed to be a dental surgeon has been banned from offering dental work after the Health Care Complaints Commission found he performed root canals and other treatments despite never being registered as a dentist.

Patient A then looked up Mr Haddad on the internet, found he wasn't registered, and made a complaint. In a decision published on Tuesday the HCCC said Mr Haddad breached the code of conduct for unregistered health practitioners by failing to provide a service in a safe and ethical manner, providing a service he is not qualified to do, and providing a service outside his experience.

According to Patient A's complaint, he was referred to Mr Haddad – who claimed to be a qualified dentist who previously practised in the US – by a friend who said he offered affordable treatment to people with a low income. The HCCC found Mr Haddad had equipment at his home consistent with the provision of dental services, including a dental chair, a porcelain oven and a paint set used to tint crowns.
