American multinational Kraft Heinz has investment bank UBS helping assess options for its Australian business, including a potential carve out and sale to a trade or private equity buyer.

It is understood Kraft Heinz has had UBS’ bankers informally run the numbers on its Australian unit and engage with potential buyers, including private equity giant KKR and its domestic biscuit maker Arnott’s.Justin McManus

Kraft Heinz has been a major player in Australia’s supermarket aisles for decades. The group claims its history in Australia dates back to the 1880s, when American miners working in the goldfields imported Heinz products, and started producing bottled horseradish from a factory in Victoria in 1935. Other private equity firms know it could be hard to topple interest from KKR, given its beachhead position in the sector.
