Every traveller entering Australia will be forced into a 14-day quarantine as the federal government takes control of closed hotels to isolate arrivals.

Every traveller entering Australia next week will be forced into 14-day quarantines as the federal government takes control of closed hotels to isolate the most dangerous source of COVID-19. Prime Minister Scott Morrison revealed the plan – which would come into effect on Sunday – would mean all travellers would be forced to stay in repurposed hotels in a desperate bid to slow the spread of the killer coronavirus.

Mr Morrison said travellers would be detained in the state their flight landed and they would not be able to travel interstate before the two-week window expired. "If their home is in South Australia or in Perth or in Tasmania and they have arrived in Melbourne, they will be quarantining in Melbourne. If it's in Sydney, it will be in Sydney,” he said.

Forced isolation ‘extreme but sensible’ | Sky News AustraliaThe National Cabinet’s decision to force all returning travellers into quarantine is “extreme … but should reduce the coronavirus outbreaks”, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.\n\nEvery traveller entering Australia from Sunday will be forced into a 14-day quarantine as the federal government takes control of closed hotels to isolate the most dangerous source of COVID-19. \n\nPrime Minister Scott Morrison revealed the plan would mean all travellers would be forced to stay in repurposed hotels in a desperate bid to slow the spread of the killer coronavirus.\n\nHealth authorities have confirmed two-thirds of the cases in Australia originated from overseas.\n\nMr Kenny said while mainstream Australia has done “a good job” with self-isolating, people cannot let up just yet.\n\n“If we can all be disciplined now, prevent community transmission, these new measures should cut the imported infections to the absolute minimum,” Mr Kenny said.\n\n“So it is up to us to prevent community transmission. Look at Italy, look at Spain, look at the US.\n\n“We don't want that to be us, the next week or two will be critical. Carn Straya, I reckon we can do this.” When people don't do the right thing, extreme measures need to be brought in. Perhaps just SENSIBLE?
